阿卡羅阿鄉村汽車旅館(Akaroa Village Inn)

Stayed in room 47, which is a 2 bedroomed garden view apartment at the Akaroa Village Inn. Sadly, the standard of decoration, repair and cleanliness was unacceptable, which is a shame because the staff were friendly and Ankara is pretty. To be specific, the fixtures & fittings were extremely dated, paintwork chipped & worn, curtains perished, no table and chairs, nor curtains/blinds at the large exposed kitchen window area. The light above bathroom mirror & bedside lights were broken. The balcony was dirty & balcony furniture rusty. I shall be complaining to my travel agent who booked it.

We booked the AKAROA Village Inn only to be given a room in The Wharf right above a bar/restaurant. I had deliberately not booked The Wharf as it was above commercial properties ( noisy and commercial glass /bin collection to wake us at 6am). Arrogant owner told us the photos of the room were accurate…..just failed to say they were in a different property! We were not prepared to stay for our pre-payed second night, he refused to refund but kindly offered us a room in the AKAROA Village Inn for an extra 150. We will be pursuing our refund through every authority possible. What a con.

Wij zijn onze vakantie in NZ hier gestart, mooie grote kamer met alle faciliteiten, ook wasmachine en droger aanwezig. Bedden waren erg goed. Onze kamer lag aan het water met een mooi uitzicht. In de kamer een uitgebreide keuken aanwezig tevens buiten zitje aanwezig.

Room 52 - definitely not recommended. It is dark and dingy with the worst bed ever. It felt like sleeping on jelly. Every movement affected the whole bed. We both had a terrible sleep and felt achy. The base is half base, half mattress. Then there is the horrible 'jelly' mattress on the top. It's very low to the ground and the base and mattress don't align and can't be moved - one part juts out. The room is described on the website as 'deluxe'. It is anything but. The internet wouldn't work properly. There was no plug for the sink yet we were expected to wash our dishes. No servicing of the room. The room wasn't ready for a 2 pm check-in and then didn't have all the items we needed - e.g. not enough face cloths, no soap. When we mentioned our concerns after the first night we were told that we should have known what to expect as the photos on the website are accurate, that it's the cheapest of the apartments and that there have been no complaints about the bed before. The manager did offer to put a topper on the bed but we know that wouldn't have made a difference. The manager said she would contact the owner and get back to us about our concerns. But we never heard anything. We had already paid otherwise we would have left immediately and they wouldn't consider a refund. It was actually quite expensive accomodation, but you would be far better off in a hostel or camp site. Will never return. We found an amazing place for our third night which was actually cheaper and with amazing service and facilities.

Externally, a very pleasing aspect with a nice garden and exterior. Internally, worse than budget room. So small there was only room for a double bed (138 cm wide), i.e. narrower than queen, and only one bedside table with no lamp and no place to walk around the bed. Very disappointing given the cost of the stay. Would not recommend.

Front rooms .. magic view .. and very close to the park, tours, restaurants and shops. The unit was very clean and well appointed. Beds very comfortable and provided an extremely restful sleep. Staff excellent and very accommodating.

A con! Booked Akaroa Village Inn and was sent to the Wharf Apartments. Access by a dirty smell back staircase to a noisey room above a restaurant. Music played until late and this wasn’t even a busy night. False advertising. Won’t be returning. How does this happen when the booking site clearly said our booking was for the Akaroa Village Inn?
