修道院飯店(The Abbey Hotel)

Hi, I live local and have now had two not so incidents when using or attempting to use this business. After dining (and it was a birthday celebration) I went up to pay when there was no conversation or chat was everything ok etc. In fact what looked to be the owner was more interested in another staff member and debating with someone on the phone. On another occasion we arrived to find kitchen staff at the front of the hotel smoking who said We Are Not Open Yet and who continued to create their smoke wall for customers to walk through well what a welcome in fact William The Conqueror received a warmer welcome. A great shame to not be able to recommend this local business.

Went for food with my partner and had some older lady with dark hair and glasses get annoyed at the fact we wanted a water so she tried rushing us out of the restaurant and slammed the stuff down when giving it to us and was evidently rude I am embarrassed for her and am annoyed I’m actually paying for my food which wasn’t even that good

Such an amazing place. Perfect location: 100% directly across the street from the Battle Abbey and Hastings battlefield, which was the primary reason for our stay. Also convenient to the rest of town and not a bad walk to train station. The room was nice but the owners and staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. We appreciated being able to drop our bags off in the room before it was ready so we could get our day started. Emailing the hotel directly ahead of time, they went above and beyond to help us out. The bar was great as well. We can definitely recommend the Sunday roast. The garden is huge, lovely, and a great place to have a drink and relax. Breakfast at the bar was included in the stay and the Full English breakfast was so good. Would love to come back sometime

My husband took me away as a Birthday surprise, we arrived in gorgeous ‘Battle’, the hotel is directly opposite the Abbey, great location. We were checked in by a young lad who unfortunately was clueless, didn’t know the answers to any questions even when we pointed out we’d booked a different room. The 1st room (6) was stuffy, smelt of burgers and boiling hot, shower room was tiny, it felt claustrophobic. We then met the Manager; Rebecca - she is definitely the jewel in the hotels crown! She managed to jiggle things about (although the owner was a simple -NO!!! due to it being a Saturday) and gave us Room 4. No Burger smells, had some cool air due to the skylight and also room to move around. So much better, and far more fit for purpose. Beautifully decorated, comfortable bed, lovely bath! Charming! Breakfast was plentiful and tasty, served in the bar/restaurant which is quaint and in-keeping with the surroundings. The breakfast team are friendly and helpful. All in all, we had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend it (but not room 6 or the lad that checked us in 🙄)

I had the calamari and garlic mayo which was really really good and then I had a cow pie which was definitely up there with one of the best pies I've ever had (I'm well fat and I've had so many pies). The absolute best bit was the gravy which was actually good thick gravy and there was enough of it which is rare in restaurants. If I had to say a negative I'd say that it probably took longer than it should have for the food to come out but it wasn't an offensively long time so it's all good. Definitely recommend, will be back.

Lovely place, right in the centre of Battle. Really varied menu and, food was excellent - the “best Ploughman’s in East Sussex” was exactly that and, the beef shin ravioli was delicious. Really friendly place, staff great too, would highly recommend.

Booked having read reviews and was really surprised and very disappointed at just how poor quality the room and the bed were, unfortunately this disappointment continued with the breakfasts, really not good value at all and cannot recommend
