Hello, I stayed at your hotel for one night in a twin room with my dad in July. Date Friday 14th July 2023. We have just received a parking fine for parking in your car park. This is strange as we provided our car registration number when we checked in? Our booking number from Trip.com is: ***********. The check in voucher number is: **********. Please can you look in to this for me as I don’t live in the UK, I live in China. My dad received the letter and doesn’t know how to deal with this as he is 89 years old and can’t use the automated service on telephones and struggles with hearing, and my mum can’t help as she doesn’t speak English well. For the most part, this is a lovely hotel. It cost us around £7 for a taxi into Chester and the rooms are clean. The majority of staff are incredibly friendly. However, while out during the day our keys were deactivated to force us to the reception so that the manager could corner me about where my car was parked - which had been mentioned to another member of staff during check in and they had said it wasn't a problem. She had been trying to call me on the hotel room phone "all day", which is a ridiculous approach as who sits in their room all day? If she had just called me on my mobile number, which was used to book the room, I would have happily come back and moved the car. She demanded I move it in that moment and I explained that I'd had a drink but I'd move it in the morning. She then said she would move my car, which I wasn't comfortable with. She then walked away from me and wouldn't allow a rational, adult conversation. The tone and attitude were accusatory and her frustration clearly misdirected when she has made no realistic efforts to contact me; we were in the hotel until 11am and, as I said, I had my phone with me all day. I tried to explain to the reception staff why my car was where it was, and that I had discussed it on a rival and was dismissed with a "well I wasn't there so I wouldn't know" then she smirked at another guest. It's such a shame that has really put a dampner on the stay for us, as it was totally unnecessary.

We went to go to the zoo and can see that it’s in a good place for accessing Chester’s attractions. The room was exactly what we needed, clean and had everything we needed. We got there late and left early so we didn’t get to appreciate the amenities but they looked good!

Great hotel. Lovely breakfast. Only stayed one night and had a swim and sauna in the morning. Very nice.

Satisfactory stay at Mercure Abbotts Well Chester. Hotel is in need of investment to smarten up appearance. Starting to look a bit dated and rough around the edges I’m places. Shower was but a trickle and this is always a bugbear when staying at hotels. Overall the hotel serves its purpose and the breakfast was fine.

Let’s start with the positives… the room was comfortable to some extent. The spa had a nice jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. In addition the staff were lovely and helpful and were trying despite the overall lack of maintenance in this shocking example of a spa hotel. The website and the booking site advertises this hotel as a hotel with spa but in the hotel, the manager was quick to point out that they were separate entities. Some of the main positives were the lovely bar area, good service by Jamie and Olly and a wonderful breakfast by Gwilliam. However… the room was cold with a view of a unemptied skip. The bedding had hairs on them and the bathroom was a shocker with cracks in the sink, bath and floor. The overpriced food was not good at all (I now know why it was relatively empty at 7pm at night as shown in the picture). Whilst the wine was lovely, the Katsu curry sauce was served in a gravy boat and was so far removed from what is should have been. The beer battered onion rings were in fact small breaded frozen ‘onion’ rings. The pak choi was still dripping from the boiled water it had been cooked in; it was simply awful. I learned on check out from the helpful manager that I wasn’t charged for the onion rings and the service charge had been deducted. However, the service was great; the quality of the food was the problem! The spa was damp, poor lighting and so unkempt… just tidy up and open the windows. The changing facilities dark and unclean 😬
