This was easily one of our worst holiday experiences, and a completely avoidable one. The tents are beautiful, very well maintained, the staff is super polite, and the Yala National park itself is spectacularly beautiful. The catch is here - the property prepared food that was inedible, to the extent that our 8 person party had to go to bed without eating anything (there are no other eating options nearby for at least 10km). The chicken was cold, the pork was hard as rock, the rice was cold and undercooked, and the sausages resembled withered tree bark. I had specifically requested gluten free food for one guest, and they were served wheat based parottas. This is simply unacceptable quality of food when you are charging $20 a plate at what is one of the premier wildlife destinations in the world. The staff, being extremely courteous, knocked this charge off our bill, but that doesn't replace what could otherwise have been a great experience. Now for the safari. We hired an 8 seater Jeep for the early morning safari. Our driver spoke now English, and was on the phone for the large part of the trip, so he didn't get to explain anything or show us any animals or birds on his own. Whatever we saw, we spotted ourselves or saw other jeeps stopping and stopped behind them. At one point, we were in a traffic jam and our driver reversed the Jeep for about 2km , which was completely deranged. While checking out of the resort, i found out that one could order beer, something no one explained to us while checking in. Overall, for the price one pays to stay here, the owners have done shamefully poorly in scrimping on food quality and not hiring good safari drivers. We have been to safaris around the world, and this was the worst managed. Avoid this resort, take local recommendations for other places before booking what can be a memorable trip to Yala.
