I arrived around 2:50 as my reservation had a check in of 3 PM. The lady at the front desk told me my room was not yet ready and wouldn't be for maybe over an hour but I could pay $20 for an equivalent room that was ready right now. I said um, no. She then said she could do $10. I said no, I am not paying anything extra why can't I just go in the equivalent room? We ended up coming back around 3:45 PM and had to wait in line to check in for over 30 minutes as the app was not working. Sure enough, as I was next in line, 4:15 PM, I got an alert from the app that I could check in. I asked the guy why I was denied check in an hour ago when my reservation clearly says 3 PM, he blamed it on short staff. I understand everyone is short staffed but when you wanted to charge for an equivalent room, not a staffing issue; there were rooms ready you just wanted to unnecessarily charge me for them. The room was average at best - smelled like BO, areas not vacuumed as there were coins. eye makeup stains on my pillowcase. Not impressed and will never be staying at this Hilton or possibly another Hilton again.
