黃金沙灘飯店(Goldi Sands Hotel)

This was my third stay at the Goldi Sands, honestly, the last time was nearly 20 years ago but I had such a great time back then I had high expectations. In the intervening 20 years, the hotel has had a revamp, double the size, double the number of swimming pools, added an elevator and they've removed the beach-fronted bungalows. All of which I think was a smart move and well worth doing. What has changed is the service and the catering. The staff are of course all very polite just that they didn't go the extra mile like they used to. We arrived late as our flight had been delayed, all I wanted was a couple of bottles of beer, they did arrive but I almost had to beg. I booked a taxi to the airport with the front desk, but they forgot, the waitresses at dinner were all about the hard upsell rather than serving. The breakfast as far as my memory serves me used to be awesome, today's breakfast is the same every day and lacks imagination, is poorly presented, and includes the worst coffee ever. The hotel has a confusing number of tariffs from all-inclusive to room only which means if you want to buy a drink it takes forever as they have to check your "status" and then if you pay cash they have to go to the cashier as they carry no float. The rooms are a good size, clean and comfortable but basic. All in all it is still a good hotel to choose but sadly it is no longer in the memorable category.

De aankomst ziet er nog wel oké uit.. tot je richting de kamer gaat. Alles ruikt naar frituur van de grote gaarkeuken, alles is verouderd, de kamers zijn volledig beschimmeld, de bedden zijn houten planken en de matrassen doorgezakt, het zwembad is verouderd etc. Ontbijt is ook niet speciaal, komt uit een enorme gaarkeuken en ligt in grote bakken te wachten. Absoluut niet aan te raden als je van comfort en hygiëne houdt

Abbiamo soggiornato al Goldi Sands quattro giorni prima di riprendere l’aereo per l’Italia. Esperienza positiva , l’albergo è buono personale numeroso e gentile, cibo sopra la media media dello Sri Lanka. Spiaggia di sabbia, molto ampia e con una doppia fila di palme all’inizio. Bella scenografia e tanta ombra. Note negative: il mare che mi aspettavo più bello, é pulito ma di colore verdastro e non trasparente, e i numerosi uccelli (corvi) che non sono aggressivi ma fastidiosi.

Das war das erste Hotel auf Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 nach der Landung in Colombo. Sauberes Zimmer, schöne Aussicht auf den Strand, gutes Restaurant, an den Bars gab es auch außerhalb der Hauptessenszeiten Kleinigkeiten und Getränke. Keine Schlacht um die Liegen weder an den Pools noch am Strand unter den Palmen. Einfach empfehlenswert. Auch eine Rundfahrt in Negombo mit dem TucTuc war toll.

Nous avons séjourné dans cet hôtel pour la première nuit du circuit. C'était très agréable. L'hôtel est bien entretenu. Nous avons eu une chambre avec vue sur la mer. Il y a 2 belles piscines et beaucoup de bains de soleil à disposition. La nourriture est bonne et variée (buffets) Par contre : zéro pour les cocktails. L'employé qui a fait notre pinacolada était très incompétent.

Wir haben 14 Tage im Hotel verbracht. Es hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Das Essen war abwechslungsreich und sehr gut präsentiert. Wir haben in unseren Betten sehr gut schlafen können. Der Wäscheservice hat sehr gute Arbeit geleistet und uns vor dem Abendessen die Wäsche nach ca. 30h zurück gebracht. Mit Express- Service wäre das auch schneller möglich gewesen. Dadurch, dass viele Gruppen das Hotel nur für die Durchreise nutzen, waren laute Besucher auch schnell wieder weg. Wir hatten sehr schöne und erholsame Tage.

Das Hotel ist sehr in die Jahre gekommen und auch insgesamt nicht 3,5 - 4 Sterne würdig. Vom Essen, über die Zimmer bis hin zum Hotelpersonal. Es ist alles sehr durchwachsen. Das Essen war ok, aber oft fehlte die Abwechslung und es hat oft sehr fade geschmeckt. Die Zimmer sind ziemlich abgerockt und die Wäsche oft nicht ganz sauber. Das Hotelpersonal ist auf den ersten Blick nett und hilfsbereit, aber scheinbar nicht zu allen Lebewesen. Wir haben mehrfach mitbekommen, wie die Secriuty nach Hunden mit Steinen geworfen, das Poolpersonal mit dem Besen nach ihnen geschlagen und zu guter letzt ein Hund vom Personal mit einem Stock geschlagen wurde. Die letzte Situation war aus dem nichts heraus. Der Hund lag im Schatten und wurde einfach von hinten geschlagen. Ich habe alle Vorfälle beim Management gemeldet. Natürlich habe ich darauf hingewiesen, dass ich verstehen kann, wenn man die Hunde nicht zu nahe am Restaurant haben möchte, aber Hunde die einfach am Strand Hotelstrand liegen und auch zu den Menschen sehr freundlich sind zu schlagen und zu bewerfen geht nicht und ist Unmenschlich!

We spent 2 weeks at Goldi Sands, 1st floor room with sea view. Our room was very comfortable, and cleaned to a high standard daily. A little tlc wouldn't go amiss in a few areas, but the staff are all worthy of a 5 star accommodation, always smiling, happy and helpful and would go that extra mile to make sure your stay was special. The beach was always clean and welcoming. Only 40mins from the airport, so ideal as a Base or stop off point for a refresh. Can't recommend highly enough. Thank you all for making our holiday special. From the management down to the cleaners, all exceptional people. Do the boat trips from the beach, especially the flat bottom boats to the lagoon and Dutch canal, you wont be disappointed.

Customer service was not good, some staff don't know how to speak English. Staff at reception should improve their customer service. The buffet breakfast was just average with no varieties of food. We stay at the hotel for 4 days with the same food every day. This hotel have lots of local and they make a lot of noise at the swimming pool when we tourist want to have a relaxing holiday. The bed and pillows were uncomfortable, and even when we asked to change pillows, it was still uncomfortable. The electricity keeps cutting off every day, and at night, there is no air conditioning. The relaxing part of the beach have people who want to sell their stuff, and we want to relax underneath the coconut trees. The hotel is walking distance to a lot of restaurants who have music at night. LORD restaurant is recalling good with music, and it is about a 5-minute walk. This hotel does not have a gym either, and for 4 days, we could not do any gym. This hotel needs to improve customer service, buffet breakfast, and gym facilities.
