I arrived at this hotel and was met by one person in reception who told me I didn't have a reservation. I showed this person my booking through a third party and had to wait 20 minutes as she tried to work out how to use the computer. After all this time, despite having paid for my hotel room in full, I was asked for my credit card so the room amount could be “held” on my card. I have stayed at this hotel before when they insisted on this “hold” on my card and was furious to find that not only had I already paid for my room in full before arriving, the hotel took an additional full payment from my card which took 14 days to be released back into my account. On this occasion I told the receptionist the prior circumstances and refused a “hold” on my credit card. I understand that other prior guests may have not been honest with regard to additional services being ordered to their room; but surely a better stance would be to refuse room service if a client didn’t wish to put a “hold” on their credit card. In total I spent 35 minutes in reception waiting to check in with a member of staff who had no clue what they were doing and further had to argue about extra “holding” charges being applied. In the circumstances, I will never stay at this hotel ever again. It’s not a nice feeling to arrive somewhere and be immediately viewed as untrustworthy. I have stayed up the road at Hotel du Vin who do not operate a deposit system and will, in future, stay with them instead.
