Candlewood Suites Portland - Scarborough

Very nice hotel

Will never stay here, again, nor recommend to anyone - the room we were in smelled like cat urine (or a cat sprayed) and there were roaches on the kitchen counter. We had a very early morning flight and when we turned on the kitchen light, there were several roaches that scattered on the counter! The property lawn looked like it hadn't been mowed in months or trees/shrubs trimmed in months. Rate for this hotel was almost $300, which is outrageous for the conditions. We left feeling gross & disgusted!!

I didn't realize it would have a kitchenette. Had to check into one building but drive to another. The person at the desk had suck a thick accent I couldn't understand him. we drive to the other building and our cards wouldn't work to get in. I had to walk back to the first building, he came with me. He determined the lock was broken to the outside of the building. We had been traveling all day and this was not what we wanted to deal with. 3 of us are in our 60's my dad is 90. Each time we left the building to go to the car, we had to go in pairs so someone could be at the door to unlock it. Just annoying. Because it had a kitchenette, no continental breakfast or anything. Again, I didn't realize that but we needed extra sleeping space for my dad.

Bug infestation! Went into bathroom and bugs everywhere!!!! Killed about 13 and brought 6 down to show front staff

Very clean, conveniently located and staff were very friendly.

We came here to leave our house with no power. The hotel does not have generators so we are crossing our fingers that nothing happens. As I have a child and we are not interested in being with no hear.

Outside doors were unlocked into separate building to rooms. Missing cabinet door and door handles. Hallway smelled of cigarettes.

This Candlewood suites was the most attractively priced hotel in greater Portland, but in the end, I should have paid more and stayed somewhere else. To be fair, I was in the area for a work trip but also bringing along a girlfriend and trying to impress her with a trip to Portland. This hotel did not impress her. The staff was friendly. No question. The outside looked great. But the inside common areas signaled right away that this wasn’t the boutique hotel experience I had dreamt of. Floors needed to be vacuumed, carpet actually needed to be replaced, and lots of bagged room trash in the hallways. The room was fine but the furniture was beat up, the bathroom was dusty and the toilet seats slid around. On the plus side, the laundry machines were free. I think I just can’t get over how much a hotel room costs in New England and the price was effectively telling me to expect this. In the end, my girlfriend and I felt perfectly safe and happy getting cozy in our suite. We had a good laugh about everything else. Was this a fine place to stay? Sure. But next time, I would spend more money.
