Probably one of the most disappointing holidays ever. BACKGROUND: Why? We have a grandson who loves to ski, he is a good skier. We thrive on taking our grandson (who's now 17) and who lives abroad, skiing annually, when possible - interrupted only when CV19 was in full flow. It is the only quality time we have with him annually, so the week is precious to us. In 2021 we went with a National Ski Company to Yllas in Finland. . They updated the ski conditions every day that it was necessary - the skiing facility was simply fantastic. The accommodation was acceptable, if not ideal, in terms of the distance one had to walk to catch the bus to the slopes. So in 2022, for a change we took him to a Golf Hotel an hour from his home - and he - as in skiing, - revelled in it. 2023 we sought to return to skiing, and in November 2022 booked to go to Borovets we booked with TUi to go early March for our annual week together. We booked chosen seats to facilitate my personal needs. The Samokov Hotel on first impression on arrival, seemed adequate, if essentially basic, as tends to be the case in many ski resorts - we did not expect a 4 star facility. The reception staff, whilst obviously of limited language skills, - that's Ok (- I had to learn a second language myself,) - appeared polite and courteous. Our first impression, on arrival in our designated room, was one of profound disappointment. Not a single hangar in the wardrobe, bedside cabinet broken. The third bed was an opened-out sofa 'put-you-up' with a mattress was barely 5cm in depth. The extruding ironwork of the bed offered no protection/comfort - and I chose to try and sleep in it and not my grandson who is a poor sleeper at best. It was early evening - we decided it was unfair to bother the ski resort Rep at that time. I slept in it myself initially - found the floor more comfortable. Before seeking to use the bed, I needed to to set up my sleep apnoea CPAP kit. I tried every which way - my electrical adaptor which has worked faultlessly in countless countries around the globe - but could not power the machine. I visited reception - and the language barrier became more apparent in seeking electrical terminology. A different extension lead was o given to me, - but to no avail. I could not use the CPAP. [The following morning the resort Rep (Crystal) - a well-educated Bulgarian young man, Chris, was approached and he was clearly not impressed to find, - no hangars, no CPAP, and a seriously deficient 'pout-you-up' bed. He did his very best. Hangars appeared, his personal connector was used to power the CPAP and a second 'mattress' of the same size, appeared on top of the original. A mattress that had numerous tears, and disgusting, faded brown stains! |The next day we collected the ski kit we'd paid for and proceeded to the gondolas and up to the piste. I was aware NO snow had arrived since we arrived the previous day. ( later to learn several days had passed with
