Fabulous value for Dinner, Bed & Breakfast! This once grand hotel still provides clean, warm, comfortable rooms, and grand, if faded, public spaces. While the dinner menu was a bit uninspiring, the food was fine (and great for the price). Full Scottish breakfast too. Happily stay again for a night or two.

The hotel was super old. The room smelled super bad, our clothes still smell after just being in our suitcase in the room. The window couldnt open so we couldnt air it out. The windows and bathroom had mold. The carpet was stained and the cups in the bathroom were yellow. The bed was probably the smallest and most uncomfortable double bed ive ever slept in. It felt dirty and uncomfortable to be there.

All was reasonably good for the price, except for breakfast, which was a disappointing affair. The porridge on offer was extremely thin, almost liquid, and easily pourable. It was a few flakes of oat, barely suspended in some hot water and there was no honey or suitable substitute to make it edible. The coffee was weak and the fruit salad lacked imagination and variety in the fruits. The hot element lacked both fried and scrambled eggs. A poor offering all round.

The foyer within the hotel is nice enough, the staff were friendly and the food was lovely. However, the room is something to be desired. The room is very dated, small, bed is tiny, and the pillow is too soft against a really hard headboard. The room wasn't hoovered, as I discovered toe nails at the side of the bed. The bathroom is very basic. The TV is a 15" one in the room and wasn't even plugged in when I went. It was facing away from the bed. The coffee in the hotel was really poor as well. I had to stop drinking it at breakfast, it tasted like brown water. The car parking is very limited. There is space for 10 cars which you can cram in, however if no space is available there, you have to park on the streets of Strathpeffer next to other residential houses.

Reviews of this place vary tremendously so I decided to book 1 night(location was perfect) and decide for myself! On the positive side, the staff are very helpful and chatty plus the breakfast was better than expected; on the negative side, let's just say it needs a lot of inves**ent and TLC. The glory days are gone from this once upon a time majestic hotel.

The highland Hotel is a mix of good and not so good. The good: beautiful old building with an impressive entrance to a large open seated area with reception and bar; very friendly and helpful staff; self service breakfast with a good choice of items (cooked breakfast mainly); clean room with comfortable bed and en-suite bathroom. The not so good: being an old building, the sound proofing is fairly poor, so you hear the other guests i.e. tv on at 5.50 am, someone walking about, and a wakeup alarm going off; bedroom furniture and fittings are dated and I have not seen a blue bathroom suite since the 80s; car parking is limited near the hotel but I always found a spot. Overall, I enjoyed my two night stay mainly down to the staff, the character of the building, and its perfect location to travel around the Highlands. I think getting a room without noise from other guests is probably hit or miss. Some updating to the bedroom and bedroom hallways is needed but they are kept clean.

The hotel is a character worthy of a visit but definitely needs a facelift inside & out. The staff was fresh faced, friendly & helpful. A few are still learning their craft but haven't we all been in that position? I was not impressed by the evening meal - tasteless & boring. Although the room was the same - tasteless & boring - it was clean & the bed was comfy

Our hotel room was large and clean. The communal areas were slightly dark and in need of some modernisation, however the personal food service and breakfast to order was delicious. My wife took unwell during our stay. Karen was lovely and offered to make toast / soup. I can’t fault the service we received. Lochinver is beautiful and would recommend staying here.

Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. We stayed in a family room. There were nails/screws sticking out of the walls everywhere and lots at toddler height which was not ideal!! The previous occupants had left rubbish at side of bed which wasn’t cleaned away. They don’t supply any soap in the toilet to wash hands, the cups in toilet to drink tap water from were full of someone else’s toothpaste smears, the single bed shook each time you turned, the double bed left you in a head down tilt all night. Just not a nice place to stay at all.
