Well not sure where these bad reviews come from we have stayed here on several occasions when visiting family members around Colchester! We arrived Friday afternoon (6 of us) to attend a 60th birthday celebration. Upon arrival we were met by Mrs Karrie and a couple of the staff all were extremely welcoming and made every effort to ensure we were happy. There was a problem with the heating in our rooms this was rectified immediately until the problem was solved. The breakfast was fine a full English and should you require extra all you had to is ask. We had two comfortable quiet nights sleep. We had a pleasant stay and will definitely use this hotel again when visiting Colchester..

Extremely comfortable bed slept like a baby both nights. Friendly welcome when I checked in. Nice clean bathroom but thats where the positives end. The breakfast was dire! The sausages were undercooked still pink in the middle and had a weird mushy texture to them. Yolk of the egg was underdone and white was overdone and crispy. Hash brown was burnt and toast was barely browned. Cup of tea with uht instead of fresh milk (never had that at hotel breakfast before!) Croissant not warmed as per my request and no butter was offered with it. It wasn't soft and crumbly and I felt it had been sitting in the kitchen a long time. Then they had the cheek to charge me £10! On the website it clearly states that you can enjoy a continental or full English breakfast for £7.50. The receptionist insisted I paid £10 as that was what the boss quoted him. However more serious was when I tried to check out of the hotel at 7.35 this morning I could not get out of the building as all the doors were locked. The reception is manned until 10pm then they lock up and go home. I had to ring two emergency numbers to get someone to let me out! The fire safety depar**ent have now been informed and they were not impressed. For this reason alone I can only give this hotel a one star rating

A slightly broken toilet seat (offset) in maintained. A shower dial that was really hard to adjust. Which would have been fine but the evening was ruined by me finding stains under the bed sheet including small black peice and hair. For £95 I felt like I had been robbed. Really disgusting . I travel slot for work and put up with alot. But a dirty bed is unacceptable. This is the first time I leave a bad review. I have a photo for evidence but the app is not allowing me to upload

Rooms facing road very hot in afternoon. Luckily could open windows a bit and allow the cooler evening breeze in, so had to use ear plugs to deaden the noise from the street both car and humans

I booked a hotel room for a US university student staying in Colchester. When she arrived at the property at 9 pm (one hour after the booking was accepted), she had to bang on the door and wait 10-15 minutes for someone to admit her. She was shown to a room and discovered as soon as the person left that the door would not close completely, so it would not lock. Obviously a dangerous situation. She tried calling the front desk and walking down there. No one was available to help her. She had to leave the hotel (not what she wanted to do) and go to another. The hotel did not respond to email requests for a refund and has denied the refund. DO NOT BOOK HERE IF YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL SAFETY OR MINIMUM LEVELS OF CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Stay was okay. Did not receive a receipt which is disappointing. Can’t do business expense claim without a receipt so called hotel. Still not seen a receipt.

On arrival and after we had checked in and given our room we were told there was going to be a party on our 1st night. We had no advance warning of this or any email to let us know. The music/noise was very loud and was still going on at past 1 o clock in the morning. We tried to call reception many times and it was closed. On telling them at the desk the next day they didnt seem to care. If we had been forewarned we would have made other arrangements or been prepared. The room was small and dated. The carpet hadn't been hoovered and there were sweet sticky bits all over it. For the price we paid we could have stayed elsewhere.

Easily the worst hotel I have stayed at in a very very long time. Room was freezing cold, had to, more or less beg for some form of heating (Fan heater supplied eventually), no food, no bar, no breakfast, no wake up call (staff don't arrive until 09.00 hours), room very grubby & on need of TLC

No food, no wake up call, no bar, place shuts down at 22.00 hours, room freezing cold, all in all, pretty dreadful This is the first AND LAST time I will use this hotel. It would be so easy to provide some very basic levels of customer service
