The hotel was located in an ancient restored building The room was spacious and clean The breakfast was superlative

We had to book here at the last minute. The place we had booked in the Oulton Broads was not what we expected - this hotel however was excellent. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The room was clean, tidy and stocked with a few goodies. Breakfast very good. No hesitation in recommending this hotel

A delightful hotel to stay with on site parking and lovely grounds backing onto the public gardens of the museum and Castle. A short walk from the centre and historic Colchester. Loved our stay which is why we came back this time. Excellent restaurant too.

Very nice hotel, room however was small and in stairwell area with noise from other guests coming up or going down and opening door into main bedroom area, noise from ground floor (staff) again traveled up the stairwell to my room. Apart from the noise a very nice hotel which should be a higher star rating. I would stay again but not in room 21

Extremely pleased with our stay here. Right from the start the receptionist warmly welcomed us and our check in was a breeze. The room was well furnished, comfortable bed and well appointed bathroom. The bar and dining room were very comfortable and the food excellent. Great location close to the centre of town

Wow! Really impressed! The hotel has clearly been recently renovated and was clean, well appointed and beautiful inside and out. The staff were amazing! There when you wanted them and away when you didn’t - felt very very well looked after. The front desk staff were very accommodating when an older member of our party wasn’t comfortable with the layout of their room and they switched her to a different room where she was much more comfortable. I was a little concerned as our room faced the main road but we didn’t have any problems with noise. We had booked an afternoon tea for 20 of us and again the staff were so accommodating of our changes and requests and the food and drink was delicious. Can’t say enough about this place - if we’re ever back in Colchester this will be our preference. Thank you all so much

Beautiful clean well presented rooms. Wonderful food made even more special by a surprise birthday plate brought out at dinner. Overall dining experience was excellent. Breakfast was just as good. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Hotel has lovely charm and character and in a great location. Would definitely recommend this hotel and will visit again.

Greyfriars is in a good position in Colchester, the building is lovely and the breakfasts were good too. The design of the reception and seating in the ‘lounge’ area needs some serious thought with more focus on being a welcoming environment with comfortable seating. The seating in my bedroom was also very uncomfortable.

Was very impressed. Pay a bit more than your Premier Inn but well worth it. Hotel was clean and fresh, complementary mini bar was a surprise. Breakfast included, staff all friendly and welcoming. Will definitely stay again.
