馬迪納特阿爾巴爾商務水療度假飯店(Madinat Al Bahr Business & Spa Hotel)

The food was nice and distant from the airport was a good thing as our flight arrived a little after midnight. The staff were very hospitable and courteous.

This is one the most iconic hotels in Zanzibar in my opinion , and I must say it is quite different from other hotels in a very good way. The hotel and its rooms are top notch and takes its residents to a royal period, very clean and very good size rooms. But more than the infrastructure, its the staff which makes this palace a special place to be. They take so much effort to know their guests and go way beyond their duties to provide personal experience to each and every guest of the hotel. From the porter(Khamis) , concierge ( Issa ), Mohammed Ali (coffee shop manager), Guest relations manager (Sayed Aly the Egyptian), Restaurant manager ( praveen), Taxi driver (Munir ) and there are so many others from other departments They all made us feel like family and so special, they took really good care of us, i must mention the main men THE CHEF (NASIR ) he make’s amazing food, mouth watering and tasty, also took time out to prepare special food for us on request, amazing personality and made sure our food and service was good and on time, also must mention HAPPY the waitress who took so good care of us and made us feel so special, very professional and always smiling always HAPPY 😀 great personality, i travel fair bit but haven't seen such hospitality anywhere yet. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who want to experience one of the best hospitality in the world. I want to Thank the management of Madinat al bahar to have such an amazing and professional team. The people i have mentioned above by names are an asset to this Hotel and i urge the CEO and the senior management to reward them. 5 star plus in my opinion. Thank you and will definitely recommend friends and family and will be back.

Fantastic hotel! A beautiful building, beautifully situated, drowning in greenery and flowers makes a great impression. Nice, friendly, polite and professional service. Great people at the reception, in the restaurant, at the pool, absolutely everyone. Delicious food - a nod to the chefs. Wonderful interiors, decorated in an oriental style, decorated with splendor and taste. Spacious rooms, beautiful decor, comfortable, large bed, bathroom, everything is a revelation! There is attention to detail at every step. Everywhere is very clean. A wonderful view from the balcony of the pool, wonderful vegetation, the ocean - in the evening - an unforgettable experience! Fairy tale! Walks on the beach, warm ocean, lush greenery - all this creates a unique atmosphere of this place. This is the hotel I want to come back to! This is a gem among hotels!

The grounds look beautiful but on closer inspection there are many problems. We came to this hotel for our honeymoon we are leaving deeply disappointed. On arrival to the hotel we were given no information on where anything was in the hotel. Gym, spa, restaurants or info on facilities we had to work it out ourselves. Still don't know where the gym is?! Male staff are not really pleasant, they just stare and stare at you not even smiling. There's security at the front entrance they are nice and polite but once your inside the hotel, the lobby area there are men above and to the side just staring at you, no smiles just staring. Makes it a bit uncomfortable. The beach is absolutely filthy. There are old tyres and lots of empty plastic bottles along the beach, it's filthy. The hotel has a lot of male staff standing around staring at you, I don't understand why they have not utilised the staff to clean the beach?! We wanted to use the beach but it was too dirty. The pool is also dirty and aged had broken drainage. The time we were here I did not see one guest go inside the pool. Also be careful of the bridge it is very dangerous when wet, it slopes backwards?! Everything is charged in dollars, even though you are not American. On arrival we were NOT informed we could not bring outside food and drink into the hotel. We went to stone town and brought a few snacks back with us, on our arrival staff stood there staring hard at us. We did not understand but put 2 and 2 together. We went to our room took out the hotel hand book and had a read. No food or drink allowed on the premises. No one told us this. After finding this out we didn't do it again. It's $20 per buffet meal per person. Food at the hotel was average. Breakfast buffet was very basic. If a hotel doesn't want guests to bring food in they need to be able to provide what guests need. We wanted chocolate, crisp and sweets one evening there is no shop within the hotel and no shop locally to purchase anything. I even went to order a cake from restaurant, they don't provide a basic sponge cake, muffin or anything similar. We are on holiday we want to enjoy ourselves. The location is not great, there is nothing in walking distance so bear that in mind. It's $20 to get a taxi up the road, 10 min drive. It just felt like all they more interested in is extracting dollars from you. No real customer care, if your having a good time, if your needs are met. Also our room was dated. Glad to be leaving

Wir sind im Rahmen einer Flugannulierung für zwei Tage in dem Hotel untergekommen. Das Hotel liegt in der Nähe des Flughafens und zentrumsnah zu Stone Town. Die Zimmer sind in die Jahre gekommen, die Matratze war unbequem, die Dusche hatte einen zerfetzten Duschvorhang und die Abflüsse rochen muffig. Die Mitarbeiter schienen alle sehr unmotiviert, insbesondere die im Service, bis auf wenige Ausnahmen. Glücklicherweise konnten wir Mohammed von der Bar kennenlernen, der einer der wenigen war, der verstand, was Service und Freundlichkeit bedeutet. Er war der einzige Lichtblick bei unserem Aufenthalt. Im Zimmer hat unsere Klospülung ständig kapituliert, sodass wir den Mangel beheben lassen mussten. Die Bettwäsche roch sehr muffig, was sehr unangenehm war. Es war uns nicht möglich, die Getränke auf die Zimmernummer buchen zu lassen, sodass wir für jedes Wasser die Kreditkarte zücken mussten und direkt bezahlen mussten. Alles andere wurde von Seiten des Hotels abgelehnt. Beim Essen wollte man uns kein zweites Getränk reichen, mit dem Hinweis, dass das Getränk nicht inkludiert sei. Jedes zweite Getränk beim Essen war ein Kampf, trotz unserer Zusicherung, dass wir es ja bezahlen würden. Das Essen im Rahmen des Menüs war gut, das Büffet hat nicht geschmeckt. Der Käse beim Frühstück wird nicht gekühlt und ist dementsprechend gegen halb zehn komplett verlaufen, angeschwitzt und hat wesentliche Farbveränderungen. Wurst gibt es nicht. Das Omlette könnten wir jedoch empfehlen. Der Strand war öffentlich und sehr schmutzig, ebenso wie das Meer vor Ort. Der Pool war so trüb und schien als totale Keimschleuder, sodass wir ihn bewusst nicht benutzt haben. Wir wollten außerdem vor Ort einen Ausflug nach Stone Town machen und hatten einen Festpreis für 20 Dollar vereinbart. Als wir zurückgekehrt sind wusste niemand mehr etwas davon an der Rezeption und man hat 50 Dollar verlangt. Alles eine absolute Frechheit, insbesondere, weil der Service des Fahrdienstes direkt durch das Hotel erbracht wird. In dem Hotel ist es darüber hinaus extrem langweilig, weil man gefühlt kaum Gäste gibt, rund herum nichts ist und Stone Town zu Fuß zu weit entfernt ist. Alles in allem waren wir einfach froh, lediglich ein Bett zu haben. Da hört es aber leider auch schon auf.

We stayed here for 3 nights, and overall, the hotel was fine. It looks opulent and the rooms are very good. However, the food (particularly the buffet) left a lot to be desired. The staff, particularly in the restaurant, are very good and nothing was too much trouble. The beach is small and not really clean, whilst the pool is nice, but if the hotel was full, there would be little chance of getting a sun bed It was further from Stone Town than we expected (a 10-15 minute car ride) on very bad roads.
