總噸數達5000多噸、容納近1300名乘客、可載12節火車車廂的“八甲田丸”,在以往扮演着讓人與土地交流的角色,是青森市打開光輝燦爛發展史的第一功臣。1964年開始航海的八甲田丸是青函55艘聯絡船中航海歷史最長的一艘船,它的黃色船殼被很多市民喜愛,目前停靠在碼頭作為紀念船展示。3層模擬船艙的幾個蠟像場景,刻劃出大正時代帶着鄉愁的乘客,包括與妻小團圓的單身赴任丈夫,或是至北海道工作返家的異鄉人,或是一起旅行的祖孫三代,個個栩栩如生,觀者彷彿可以感受到當時的思鄉氣氛,還有賣蘋果的大媽更是可愛。頭等艙座椅有點像國內的高鐵商務艙,躺着很舒服;船長室及各艙室都保留原樣,供遊客参觀。操作室是聯絡船的心臟部,當時除了船長和一些員工以外都不能進入,在這裏還能體驗到開船的小遊戲,一切設備規整齊全,似靜待起航一般。一層的車輛甲板是世界上很少見到的運送鐵路車輛的空間,展示着當時的運送郵件、運送貨物的車輛。在B1層可以見到1600馬力的帶着單動周期主幹活塞排氣渦輪的紫油發動機有8組。
